Shattered glass covered the ground after a bus shelter was 'smashed' in Coventry. It happened earlier this week on Beake Avenue in Whitmore Park.

All of the bus shelters in the region are managed by Transport for West Midlands (TfWM). A spokesman slammed the 'vandalism' describing it as a waste of taxpayers' money adding that it causes 'inconvenience for passengers.'

A number of measures have been put in place to try and reduce the number of incidents, including the installation of more resilient shelters and the use of CCTV in neighbourhoods plagued by vandals, said TfWM. The bus shelter will be repaired in the next two weeks, they added.

A spokesman for Transport for West Midlands said: “We own and maintain thousands of bus stops and shelters across the West Midlands for the comfort and convenience of passengers. Unfortunately, vandalism carried out by a minority of individuals not only causes inconvenience for passengers but is also a drain on the public purse.

“That is why we continue to put in place measures to try and reduce the number of incidents including the installation of more resilient shelters and even CCTV cameras at some locations with a history of criminal damage. Where damage does occur, our policy is to deal with broken glass within 24 hours of being made aware of an incident and to repair shelters within two weeks.”

It's been targeted by graffiti artists previously from the looks of it?
