A teenage male was the victim of a shooting in Bedworth. Police have confirmed that the victim of the incident last night (June 26) was aged in his late teens.

He is understood to have been shot in the chest in an alleyway off Smorrall Lane that links Dark Lane and Smercote Close. He managed to stagger onto the main road

The victim, who has not been identified, remains in hospital being treated for the gunshot wounds to his chest. He was taken to hospital via land ambulance but West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) confirmed that an air ambulance was part of their response to the 999 call.

A WMAS spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a gunshot incident on Smorrall Lane at 8.12pm. One ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance attended the scene.

"On arrival we found one male patient who was treated for potentially serious injuries before being taken to hospital by land ambulance."

Warwickshire Police has confirmed that no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. However, two men were arrested nearby and weapons and cannabis were seized.

The shooting has caused shockwaves in the community. Detective Inspector Carl Buckley, from Warwickshire Police CID, said that officers will be in the area today.

He also appealed for any witnesses to the shooting, which happened at 8.15pm, as detectives try to track down the suspects. "We’re asking any drivers in Bedworth yesterday evening, especially in Dark Lane, Smercote Close or Smorrall Lane, to check their dashcam, as they may have footage that will assist with our enquiries," DI Buckley said.

”We know how distressing incidents like this are for the local community. Officers from the local safer neighbourhood team will be the area to provide reassurance to the local community today. We will not tolerate violence like this on our streets. We are absolutely focused on identifying who is responsible and ensuring they are brought to justice.”

Anyone with information should contact Warwickshire Police online, or call 101, quoting incident 443 of June 26. Those who would like to provide information but stay anonymous can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
