A power cut overnight left hundreds of home without electricity this morning (June 22). A total of 1,073 homes in the CV3 post code and surrounding areas in the south-west of the city were left without power after the supply went down at about 4am.

A fault originating from the University of Warwick was the cause, National Grid said. National Grid engineers were able to get power almost immediately restored to 114 properties.

Engineers had hoped to have power restored at the remaining properties by 6am. That forecast was revised shortly after 6am when the firm announced there would be a delay and that power would not likely be restored until midday.

But NG staff were able to fix the fault and power was restored to the other dwellings affected shortly after 7.15am. National Grid's power cut map showed the outage was high voltage meaning 'these incidents tend to be larger, affecting the wider area and could mean your neighbours are off supply too'.
