Residents braved the rain as they watched the King's Coronation airing live in the city. Locals flocked to Broadgate on Saturday to watch the highly-anticipated screening of the historic occasion.

The King's Coronation was aired from a huge screen with picnic benches and deck chairs across the square. However, the weather took a turn for the worst as it was pouring with rain in the afternoon.

Royal fans didn't let the weather stop them. The screening had a huge turnout as dozens of residents sat outdoors to watch the King's Coronation.

Photos show residents donning raincoats and umbrellas to keep themselves dry. Many were also seen carrying union jack flags and wearing red, white and blue hats. There are several activities taking place over the Bank Holiday weekend in Coventry.

On Sunday, May 7, Broadgate is hosting 'The Big Picnic' where friends and family can bring picnics for the city street party from 11am-4pm. There will be live music from brass bands and the Festival Band including the incredible Bombay Baga Brass Band.

Children can also get involved with arts and crafts activities, as well as environmental activities to reflect the new King's personal interests. This free get-together will encourage Coventarians to enjoy the regal-themed street entertainer, as well as coming together as a city.

From May 6 to 8, there will be a range of bakers, crafters and makers selling their products over the three days another event which is free to attend. There is also a Coronation Garden Party event at Coombe Abbey taking place.

It is a free event that will be held on Sunday, May 7 from 10am to 4pm.
