A river of raw sewage flowed along a Coventry street causing an 'absolutely disgusting' smell for days on end. Residents in Rowley’s Green Lane, Longford had to put up with an 'absolutely disgusting' smell for more almost two weeks.

They said that a drain was left blocked for more almost two weeks, and even led to raw sewage coming onto the drive of one of the residents. Locals claim that they made repeated calls to Severn Trent about the issue and were told it was going to be fixed - only for endless delays.

Now Severn Trent are trying to ensure it doesn't happen again. "Raw sewage was flowing down the road constantly for almost two weeks. It backed up my father in law’s waste pipe and was causing it to puddle on his driveway and almost went into his garage," said the daughter in law of one of the residents.

"The smell was absolutely disgusting. It was not good for the residents having to drive through it and potentially walk it into their houses - or the people that have to walk past it."

Several official complaints were also made. After this, a team finally arrived to solve the issue on Friday afternoon (March 24).

CoventryLive contacted Severn Trent about the issue and the length of time residents had to wait for it to be fixed. A spokesman for the firm apologised and said that a full investigation would take place.

"We’re incredibly sorry for the disruption that’s been caused as we know how distressing experiencing any kind of flooding can be," the spokesman said. "Our teams have been out to the customers property on Friday and have completed work clearing a blockage in the pipe that was causing the issue.

"With the sewer pipe now clear, we will be using CCTV equipment to fully investigate what caused it, and so we can help prevent any further issues. Again, we’re really sorry for the inconvenience that’s been caused, and we’ll be working to have the investigation following the blockage completed, with everything back to normal as quickly as possible.”
