Coventry families can now dispose of any extra household waste at temporary drop-off sites which open today (Saturday, January 7). Five temporary sites will be dotted around the city this month to help residents get rid of rubbish from over the festive period.

Coventry City Council says that household waste and recycling collections will remain unaffected and continue on the normally scheduled days. Garden waste collections will remain paused until Tuesday, January 17.

Each of the sites will be open between the hours of 8am and 4.30pm on the first three weekends of January. Residents can dispose of bagged household waste, recycling and small electrical appliances. However, the city council say they cannot accept building and construction materials, large electrical appliances and garden waste.

Here is where the five sites will be located:

  • Willenhall Social Club, CV3 3BB
  • Hearsall Common, CV5 6GN
  • Cheylesmore Car Park, CV1 2HJ
  • Aldermans Green Road Car Park, CV2 1PL
  • Telfer Road Car Park, CV6 3DR
All the sites will be open on the following days:

  • Saturday, January, 7 and Sunday, January 8
  • Saturday, January, 14 and Sunday, January 15
  • Saturday, January, 21 and Sunday, January 22
Councillor Patricia Hetherton, cabinet member for City Services, previously said: “Christmas is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate together and we know that those celebrations can lead to extra waste being created. We want to help our residents get rid of this additional waste in a safe and secure manner. That is why we're opening these drop sites.

“I want to stress that these sites aren't replacing our standard bin collections and our crews will be out collecting this festive period. This is just about giving our residents options.”

Residents do not need to book to drop their waste off at the five temporary sites in Coventry. Any bulky items can be taken to the Household Waste and Recycling Centre (Tip) on London Road.

Well, their bins are so full of the food they wasted by overbuying for the one day when the shops were closed. :stir:
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
