A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was reportedly attacked with an axe in Coventry. The attack happened in broad daylight on Walsgrave Road, Ball Hill yesterday (June 3), police today revealed.

West Midlands Police (WMP) were called at around 1.30pm and cordoned off the area for the rest of the day. The woman, who is in her 30s, was taken to hospital and is currently in a critical condition.

A 42-year-old man handed himself into police this morning (June 4) where he was arrested. He remains in custody.

Police say the two people are known to each other and they are not looking for anyone else who might be connected to the incident at this time. But anyone who has information is being urged to get in touch with officers.

A spokesperson for WMP said: "We were called to Walsgrave Road, Coventry at 1.30pm yesterday (3 June) following reports a woman had been attacked with an axe. A woman in her 30s was taken to hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

"A 42-year-old man handed himself into police this morning, and was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody.

"We understand the two people are known to each other, and we are not looking for anyone else in connection at this time.

Attempted murder charge after alleged axe attack in Coventry

A man has been charged after a woman was allegedly attacked with an axe in Coventry. A woman in her 30s was injured after ain incident on Walsgrave Road on Friday afternoon (June 3).

Police previously revealed that two people involved were known to each other. Officers said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Bogdan Serban was arrested on Saturday morning (June 4), the day after the attack. Police have now charged the 42-year-old with attempted murder.

Serban was remanded in police custody overnight. He is due to appear before Coventry Magistrates' Court today (June 6).

The woman, in her 30s, remains in hospital in a critical condition.

Man jailed for brutal axe attack on woman at hair salon in Coventry



A violent man who attacked a woman with an axe and a knife at a Coventry hair salon has been locked up for 31 years. Bogdan Serban entered the salon and attacked the woman, causing injuries to her face and both arms as well as a fractured eye socket.

When asked about the knife in a police interview, Serban said he stored it in his car boot and used it for peeling apples. On the axe, he said he had bought it three or four days earlier and had not previously used it.

Officers tried to show Serban the injuries the woman sustained, but he refused to look and said he could not remember hitting her with the axe during the targeted attack. He told officers he had wanted to call the police but was 'scared' he would be arrested.

Serban, 42, was charged with attempted murder after previously pleading guilty to Section 18 wounding and two counts of possession of an offensive weapon. He was sentenced at Coventry Crown Court on Friday (January 6) after being found guilty by a jury of the attempted murder of a woman in the city on June 3 last year.

The attack happened in broad daylight in Walsgrave Road. The victim, who is in her 30s, was left fighting for her life.

Serban was arrested the day after the attack. He was charged the following day with attempted murder.
