Cora's Cafe was well known for its affordable breakfast menu
A café in Coventry city centre has cited the cost of living crisis as the reason for its closure. Cora's Diner, at Coventry Market, shut down its doors for good over the weekend.
The popular café had served a variety of breakfast options including bagels, burgers, pizzas and jacket potatoes. They also served fried chicken, sandwiches, toasties and desserts including pancakes and waffles, all at affordable prices.
The café announced via its social media channels that it was closing its doors after "finding it hard to keep on top of everything". Its owner told CoventryLive spiralling costs led to the closure.
Discounts of 30 per cent were offered on Saturday, the cafe's final day of trading. A statement said: "We thank all the loyal customers over the period. It’s a goodbye but not for long we hope."
The announcement was met with a flurry of support from its customers. Jade Hadlington said: "That’s a shame hope all goes well in the future." O’Toole’s Cafe commented: "I fear a lot more will follow suit. Life has been made extremely difficult for small independent business. Particularly in hospitality."
The café recently showed its caring side by using money from its food sales for Coventry Blaze ice hockey star Joey Raats, who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. They donated £2 from the sale of every no.8 burger on their menu to his GoFundMe page aiding his treatment and recovery.
