It is part of the ongoing roadworks to widen the road in Spon End

Coventry Ring Road is undergoing serious roadworks as the Spon End cleaner air zone plan continues. The layout of Junction 7, near the SkyDome and Sky Blue Tavern, has changed and is said to be causing confusion amongst drivers.

What was once a roundabout is now a two-lane system. Heading into the city centre from Spon End, you now carry on straight before slightly turning left into town or right to join the Ring Road in the direction of the train station.

And if you're leaving town you also carry on straight. If you're leaving the Ring Road to join the junction you can now only follow the road to the left towards Spon End or Earlsdon.

The slips roads motorists used to get onto and off of Junction 8 are currently closed. However, Coventry City Council have said this is not a permanent layout and will return to a roundabout once the phase of work is complete.

A Coventry City Council Spokesperson told CoventryLive: "The traffic set up at junction 7 is a temporary arrangement while work continues. The junction is currently controlled by lights and this phase has been carefully timed to ensure that most of it can be done over the school summer holiday.

"Two of the four slip roads are currently closed but they will open once this phase is complete. We would like to thank people for their patience."

I was on a bus yesterday which was forced to navigate the junction between Croft Road and The Butts.

It was an interesting experience to say the least!
