Staging Nuneaton Carnival next year will cost £10,000, according to committee members. They admit it is a tough task but have said they are determined and committed to hitting the target.

So far they have raised just shy of £2,000 and will step-up the fund-raising at another of the town's treasured events - the Nuneaton Fire Station Open Day this Saturday (September 2). Carnival committee volunteers will be at the event at the Newtown Road-based station.

They will man a raffle to help bring in funds. It is the first of a series of events as the volunteers aim to bring the carnival back to the town.

As we reported in our newsletter, a date has been set for next year's event - Sunday, June 11. The all-important theme is 'Let's Party' and can be anything from tea parties to pirate parties.

It follows a last ditch attempt made to save the historic event as lack of interest led to this year's event being cancelled. But committee members say they want to bring the event back to its former glory and are 'wholeheartedly committed' to reaching the £10,000 target needed to host the carnival next year.
