Attempted murder arrest after man attacked with axe in Coventry city centre

A man has been rushed to hospital after a horrifying axe attack in a public space in Coventry city centre. The 30-year-old victim was treated for injuries to his arm at the scene before being taken to hospital by paramedics.

The incident happened at Lady Herbert's Garden shortly after 5pm on Tuesday (August 30). Police have confirmed that a man, aged 26, has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Officers used a trauma dressing supplied by The Daniel Baird Foundation to stem the bleeding of the 'nasty' wound to help prevent blood loss. Paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after to provide further treatment.

An investigation into the incident has been launched by West Midlands Police. Eyewitnesses said the area was cordoned off while officers conducted enquiries. It has since reopened to the public.
