It follows recent incidents of violence including with weapons
Police have imposed a Section 60 order in parts of Coventry tonight (Tuesday, July 12). The order gives officers the power to stop and search people they suspect could be involved in violence.
The Tile Hill and Canley areas of Coventry will be subject to the Section 60 powers and also a dispersal order until Wednesday (July 13) morning.
In a statement, Coventry Police explained: "The order which started at 6.30pm this evening, will last until 3am tomorrow. It gives us the power to stop and search people we suspect may be involved in violence involving weapons, without the need to have reasonable grounds.
"The dispersal order gives us extra powers to break up groups and ask anyone to leave the area whose behaviour we believe will cause alarm, harassment or distress. The Section 60 is in place after recent incidents of violence including weapons over the last few days.
"Our priority is to keep you safe. If you have any information on knife or gun crime, contact us on Live Chat on our website west-midlands.police.uk. In an emergency dial 999."
