A man has been led away in handcuffs and a toddler carried from a property just off Alderman's Green Industrial estate after a stand-off in Coventry this morning. West Midlands Police were called to the scene of a 'domestic disturbance' at 7.24am.

It resulted in a three-and-a-half hour stand-off as a man refused to leave the property. West Midlands Ambulance Service was also called to the scene.

'Specialist' resources were called to assist and officers were seen speaking to a man inside the terraced home. Armed officers were also called and ultimately led the man away from the property at around 10.45am today.

Miners Way and the surrounding Dutton Road and Eburne Road were closed during the three-hour long police operation, roads which are a 'major cut through' to reach the industrial estate. As a result, at least one entrance to the industrial area was inaccessible.

In a statement about the incident issued earlier this morning, a West Midlands Police spokesman said: "We’ve cordoned off Miners Way in Coventry this morning following a domestic disturbance at a property reported to us at 6.50am. A man inside the property is refusing to come out. Specialist resources have been called and officers remain at the scene.

"Miners Way has been closed off while we deal with the incident. We’ll be keeping residents informed and doing our best to ensure they can go about their business."

Speaking before police revealed what they were doing at the scene, a person who works in the nearby Alderman's Green Industrial Estate told us: “I’ve no idea what’s going on but there always seems to be something going on here. We had a cannabis farm raid a few weeks back and there is always crashes on these bends.

"A car went into those flats before Christmas - took them ages to sort out as well.” A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said earlier this morning: "We were called at 7.24 to an incident at a property in Miners Way. We currently have one ambulance and a paramedic officer at the scene."
