Coventry neighbourhood 'resorts to its own active patrols' after crime waveA concerned member of the public has told Coventry Live their relatives in Foleshill have resorted to doing their own "active patrols" after a recent spike in crime in the neighbourhood left them scared to stay in their own home.
The individual, who did not want to be named, also had a relative whose house was burgled in a string of break-ins in the area last week.
Coventry Live has heard from other worried residents over the past week as Foleshill has been gripped by a crime wave.
Aseries of linked burglaries took place in the area last week, with five offences occurring in one night.
The worried resident told Coventry Live : "I would like to state that my family are frightened to stay in their home as it was burgled whilst they slept and now they are considering moving from their home which they have lived in for more than 30 years."
The community feel "like sitting ducks", the concerned relative added.
They were critical of what they called a "poor" police response.
"A few nights prior there were burglaries in the area which they did not notify the community about through social media or step up their patrols," they said.
The reader added their male relatives have resorted to doing "active patrols" on the streets with other community members to reassure local residents.
Another resident, who has lived in Foleshill for 34 years, told Coventry Live anonymously: "It feels like the police are not taking any notice of it whatsoever.
"Crime has been an ongoing issue in this area for a while, and no one is really taking action.
"I've not had a single response back from the police."
The Foleshill-born resident added: "Why aren't police putting cameras up or using covert patrols to chase down these people - why aren't they checking CCTV cameras?
"It has definitely got worse, it was never like this, to hear of that many burglaries."
