Man arrested following incident where car drove through wall and hit pedestrian

A 26-year-old man has been arrested following an incident in Coventry where a car drove through a wall - colliding with and injuring a pedestrian.

It happened on Friday, November 5, at around 4.45pm when police officers spotted a suspected drug deal taking place in a car park in The Butts.

The officers pulled into the car park to investigate but as they did a Volkswagen Golf drove through a wall, injuring a man who was walking on the other side.

Both the injured pedestrian and the driver were given first aid before medics arrived at the scene. The two men were then taken to hospital.

The Butts was closed for a time in the wake of the incident while police enquiries were carried out.

West Midlands Police has today said a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, including dangerous driving, GBH and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

They added that neither the driver or the pedestrian suffered life-threatening or life-changing injuries.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “We arrested a 26-year-old on suspicion of criminal damage, dangerous driving, GBH and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

“He has been released under investigation while our enquiries continue.

“The injuries received by the driver and the pedestrian were not life-threatening or life-changing.”

As a police car was at the scene when the incident happened an investigation has been launched by the force’s Professional Standards Department.
