A Coventry MP received a massive backlash on Twitter after insisting a 4-day workweek was "common sense" for the British workforce, and would mean "freedom" for those who are too focused on their jobs.

Earlier this week, Labour MP Zarah Sultana, who represents Coventry South wrote on Twitter: "New polling shows more than half of the British public want to see a shorter working week, with fewer days & hours. Introducing a 3 day weekend with no loss of pay is common sense. It’s popular & would mean more freedom for ordinary people whose lives are dominated by work."

However, several Twitter users disagreed with her stance on the issue.

Some users suggested certain sectors, such as the NHS, transport and emergency services would suffer with limited workers on standby.

Others said 4-day work weeks were not practical because businesses may "go bust".

"Which people would that be? Nhs, care, shop, utility, public transport, teachers, bin men, emergency services, carers. I could go on and on. Or do you mean politicians, councillors, office workers?" another Twitter user said.

"Been tried in many industries, and your assumption is wrong. It leads to increased overtime working. More leisure time needs more money, not the same amount. Manufacturers can't produce 5 days output in 4 which leads to increased costs which means we need more money to buy things," one Twitter user added.

"Errrr, I think you’d see a lot of business go bust," one Twitter user said.

"This is just nonsensical. A reduced working week, for sure, but you can't expect businesses to just extend the weekend and pay people the same amount," another Twitter user commented.

"As a small business owner how am I supposed to pay people the same for doing 60% of their work?" another Twitter user added.

There are 168 hours in a week and to get value for their investment an employer requires his facility to be working for as much of that time as possible. Perhaps the MP realises this and is advocating 4 days on, 4 days off? No, I thought not.

This sort of stupidity is what happens when you elect still wet behind the ears MPs that have no real-life experience! :clown:
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
