The leak happened at 11 storeys high at a housing association block on Meadow Street, just outside of the city centre.

According to fire fighters, two residents were assessed at the scene before being taken to hospital. It is no known at this stage the severity of their condition.

Crew Commander Phil Molloy of Coventry Fire Station said: "We were called to Meadow Street, Spon End where there was a gas leak that affected the 11 floor of a block of flats.

"Two people were assessed by an ambulance crew and were taken to hospital.

"A Citizen Housing emergency care team attended, as did a gas engineer and the police."

  • The tower block is called 'Givens House'
  • It's in Thomas Street not Meadow Street
  • Natural gas is not toxic
  • This article was almost impossible to find because it was posted in the wrong section of the Telegraph website
