Police have confirmed that there were reports shots were fired close to Robin Hood Road this afternoon

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said that shots were reportedly fired in nearby St James' Lane.

They said that armed officers attended the scene and that a cordon remains in place while investigations continue.

There are, as yet, no reports of anyone being injured.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said it had not been asked to attend the scene.

Reports emerged on social media this afternoon of a police incident on Robin Hood Road, close to Willenhall Social Club.

Eye-witnesses reported hearing gunshots in the area.

Armed officers and dog units were reported to be in attendance.

Part of Robin Hood was subsequently closed and a police cordon put in place.

National Express bus services were diverted.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "We were called just before 2pm to reports of shots being fired on St James' Lane, Coventry.

"Armed officers were sent to the scene, which is now cordoned off by officers."

The force spokesman added: "The investigation is at an early stage, but there are no reports of any injuries so far.

"Anyone with information has been asked to contact us via live chat at west-midlands.police.uk, via 101, or via Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Quote log 2441 of 10 June."
