New Coventry city centre apartments with shops or offices approved
New apartments with ground-floor shops or offices have been approved on a prime Coventry city centre site.
Far Gosford Developments Ltd have been given the go-ahead to build on the current green-space and paving on the corner of Well Street and Bishop Street, next to the student accommodation block The Study Inn.
Council planning officer Anne Lynch granted delegated approval this month after deeming it an “acceptable principle, design, siting and massing of the building”.
In planning statements, applicants said the scheme will provide much-needed apartments on a “vacant and under-utilised brownfield site”.

They added: “The proposed apartments would be within a highly sustainable location within Coventry city centre and occupiers would have excellent access to a wide range of facilities and services.
“Furthermore, at the pre-application meeting for a mixed use development at the site earlier in the year, council officers offered support for residential development on the site and noted that there is a need for residential development in the city centre.
“The proposed development also proposes commercial/office uses at the ground floor, which would contribute towards active frontages along both Well Street and Bishop Street.”
