A man has been jailed for more than 10 years after going on a violent rampage with a gun, and threatening to kill his former partner in Coventry

Taylor Doherty, aged 21, called his ex-partner in September last year and threatened her before turning up at her house and throwing a brick through the window.

He went to find her at a different address but mistakenly broke into a student house where he smashed a window and threatened two students with a gun.

West Midlands Police circulated Doherty’s image as wanted, and while he was on the run trying to evade capture, he dragged a member of the public out of their car, hit them over the head with a firearm and drove off in their vehicle.

He was arrested by a dog handler as he tried to run away from the scene of a burglary in Tile Hill.

Doherty was identified in an identuty parade and phone evidence linked him to the crime scenes. His DNA was found on a drinks bottle inside the stolen car and blank rounds were found at an address he’d been staying at.

Even after the offences he continued to message his ex-partner with threats.

In light of the mounting evidence against him, Doherty had no choice but to plead guilty to two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, breach of a non-molestation order, robbery and dangerous driving.

At Warwick Crown Court Doherty was jailed for 10-and-a-half years.
