Plans for a landmark hotel in Nuneaton town centre have been officially submitted.

It is no secret that Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has long had a vison for a hotel on the Abbey Street car park, but now it has taken a step closer to becoming a reality.

The authority has submitted an 'outline application' for the hotel as well as wider proposals for other parts of the Abbey Street area, including restaurants, a plaza for events and housing.

An outline application seeks to establish whether the scale and nature of a proposed development is acceptable before a fully detailed proposal is put forward.

The application states: "Hybrid planning application for (i) full planning application for the demolition of buildings, erection of hotel (Class C1) with associated access, car parking and landscaping/public realm and (ii) planning application (including access) on remainder of Abbey Street car park and buildings fronting, including properties to the rear for a mixed use town centre development comprising flexible use for retail, leisure, restaurants and 'makers space' (Class E) medical uses, (Class E) residential (Class C3) multi-storey and surface car parking with associated means of access, public plaza for public and other events, public realm and landscaping."

It has yet to be revealed if a company has been found to run the hotel.

There are also currently no detailed images of the hotel or the wider plans attached to the planning application online.

Detailed documents of the plans are set to be uploaded onto the planning application online.

As with all plannning applications there will be public consultation into the plans.

A target decision date has been set for April 26.
