Three men from Birmingham have appeared in court following a robbery in Coventry where a pensioner was knocked unconscious.

The incident happened in Cromwell Lane at around 12.45pm on Monday December 21 and saw a man in his eighties sustain head injuries after he was knocked to the floor.

The Birmingham men, from West Heath and Bartley Green were subsequently arrested by West Mercia Police in Bromsgrove.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “We’ve charged three men after a pensioner was knocked unconscious following a robbery in Coventry.

“A man in his eighties suffered head injuries after being knocked to the floor in Cromwell Lane at around 12.45pm on Monday (December 21). An ornament was taken as his attackers fled in a car.

“A vehicle matching the description was stopped in Bromsgrove by colleagues from West Mercia Police. A knife was recovered and three people were detained.”

Shaun Jones, aged 35 of West Heath, was charged with robbery, possession of an offensive weapon and driving offences.

Matthew Ned, aged 32, and Rickeal Manning, aged 30, both of Bartley Green, were charged with robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.

They appeared before Coventry Magistrates Court this morning (Wednesday December 23) where Jones was remanded in custody, and the other two bailed with conditions, to appear at Warwick Crown Court on January 21.

West Midlands Police said the injured man has since been discharged from hospital and is continuing with his recovery.

I'm guessing they were drunken revellers who thought it would be good fun to rob an old man of something which was of no value to them?

It's the reason I avoid going anywhere on Xmas Eve or New Year's Eve.
