Consultation starts over future of A&E in Rugby

Postby dutchman » Mon Jul 26, 2010 12:10 pm

Public consultation is beginning over plans to close the accident and emergency department at a Warwickshire hospital.

The proposals include scaling down services and removing the A&E facility at the Hospital of St Cross, Barby Rd, Rugby.

All emergency cases would be taken to University Hospital in Coventry if the plans are finalised.

Some residents in Rugby have said they will fight the proposals.

:bbc_news:

So someone has an accident in Rugby and has to travel all the way to Coventry to be treated? It's bad enough having to travel to Walsgrave from many parts of Coventry. And what about the people from Coventry already waiting for treatment? Are they now expected to wait even longer while more urgent cases from Rugby are treated first?

I hope the people of Rugby win their fight. In the East Kent region - people have to travel miles now for A&E - for the very same reasons - scaling down the smaller hospitals.
