Extra police patrols are being put on in the city following the Coventry shooting last night

One man has been discharged from hospital after last night's triple shooting in Coventry while other two victims are now thought to be in a stable condition.

The three men suffered gunshot injuries as a result of an incident on Far Gosford Street, on the edge of the city centre (Thursday, September 17).

All three were taken to hospital for further treatment - with two said to be seriously injured.

This afternoon, West Midlands Police said two of the victims remain in hospital, though their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

The force has also revealed that they have stepped up patrols in the city, as a result of the incident.

At this time, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident, though police are searching for a dark coloured vehicle spotted in the area around the time - and are asking the public for their help in doing so.

Earlier today, a cordon remained in place, taping off a section of the street where the incident took place.

Inside the cordon was an e-scooter left abandoned, and it has been confirmed that this belonged to one of the victims.

An eye witness told CoventryLive how the gunman got out of a car and ran up the road before opening fire on the group outside of Chinese takeaway.

Armed police were called to Far Gosford Street days before shooting over man with 'gun in his waistband'

Armed police were called to Far Gosford Street five days before a triple shooting in response to a report of a man with what appeared to be a handgun in his waistband.

A resident reported a row which broke out as a group of up to 25 young men and women gathered by the Sainsbury’s Local store on Sunday night (September 13).

Police responded and seized CCTV, with enquiries continuing.

The resident, who did not want to be named, said: “There was a big group all about 18 to 20 years old by the Sainsbury’s. One of the youths, a black lad, was talking loudly about having an issue with someone on the other side of the road.

"He said, ‘if they want to get tasty with guns fair enough’ and flashed his gun, the black handle of the pistol was visible. Then arguments started breaking out.”

The resident said it was not the only incident which has caused concern in the popular nightlife street.

The person added: “It’s mad on Gosford Street at the minute.

“On the same day, a white lad was coming down the wrong way on his bike hitting all the car windows with his hands. It happened to the car in front and behind me while I was stuck in traffic.

“There’s drugs, rubbish, crime and noise. How are we meant to be the City of Culture? It’s almost funny.”

if you bring in people and families from 3rd world countries to live here and mix then expect this country to be a 3rd world and all that comes with it.

Dispersal order in place as police put 'significant' resources into triple shooting investigation

Police have imposed a dispersal order and are trawling CCTV footage as they continue to investigate a triple shooting on Far Gosford Street.

The force said this afternoon (Saturday, September 20) that it is ploughing “significant” resources into its effort to catch the offenders behind the attack outside a Chinese takeaway on the busy run of shops and restaurants close to Coventry city centre.

Dispersal powers are granted under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 and mean officers can direct anyone to leave an area whose behaviour is likely to cause alarm, harassment or distress.

Police also have the power to seize items that are used to cause distress, including bicycles.

Although the force did not specify when the temporary order would be imposed, they have typically been used in other parts of Coventry over weekends.

Three people were injured after a gunman – thought to have had an accomplice driving a car – opened fire on Thursday night (September 17).

The man thought to be most seriously injured had recovered sufficiently to be discharged from hospital, the force said this afternoon.

Another has previously been discharged while the final victim remains in hospital.

Taxi driver may hold vital clues to help police in triple shooting investigation

Image

Police investigating a triple shooting in Coventry have launched an appeal to trace a taxi driver who may hold valuable clues to help officers catch those responsible.

The driver may have "crucial" information or dashcam footage which can assist detectives seeking to catch those behind the "horrific" violence in Far Gosford Street on Thursday night (September 18).

West Midlands Police issued an image of what is believed to be a silver-coloured Peugeot Tepee, with a white taxi sign on the roof, which was in the street at the time of the shooting.

The appeal was made as officers continue to trawl though CCTV footage, with the force saying that the investigation is moving "at pace".

The cab is pictured in a CCTV still as it passes by the spot where three men were shot as they stood outside a Chinese takeaway.

Detective Inspector Kat Sibley, from Force CID, said: “We are exploring several lines of enquiry and this taxi driver could hold information to assist us.

“The men injured on Thursday evening are thankfully less seriously injured than initially thought and only one remains in hospital where his condition is stable, however we are still determined to catch those responsible for this horrific violence.

“We are continuing with increased patrols and we have a Dispersal Order in place in the area. Please talk to us if you have any concerns."

The driver could hold "crucial" information, police said in the appeal published on its website this evening (Saturday, September 20).
