New CCTV and lampposts will be installed in the Hillfields area of Coventry after more than £500,000 was secured to help fight crime.

Residents will also be given home security packs to help deter crooks and encouraged to join the Street Watch scheme in a bid to "help improve community safety".

The money comes from the Safer Street Funds - which has seen £25million put up by the Government to tackle burglary and theft in crime hotspots - and totals in at £549,040 for Hillfields.

As well as paying for new CCTV, lampposts and home security packs, the funding will be used to help community groups to work with residents to reduce crime by distributing crime prevention literature across the area.

The successful bid for funding was led by the West Midlands Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner, Waheed Saleem, who said: “I am really pleased that we have been successful in securing over £500,000 to help improve community safety in the Hillfields area of Coventry.

“This funding will help introduce effective crime prevention measures in the community and educate people on what they can do to reduce acquisitive crime.

“As well as using the funding to invest in CCTV and improving street lighting in the area, I would also encourage local residents to join Street Watch scheme.

"Throughout the West Midlands we have seen local residents take an active part in working to reduce crime by joining Street Watch.”

The deputy leader of Coventry City Council, Abdul Khan, said: “This is great news for the residents of Hillfields. We are pleased that we have been successful in our bid for the Safer Streets funding.

“This extra funding stream will help us to make Hillfields a safer and more welcoming part of our city. I am sure residents will welcome the news and want to work in partnership to help us reduce crime and antisocial behaviour in the neighbourhood.”

It'll do diddly squat because if any action is taken the word 'racist' will be used.

This country needs to grow a pair and start sorting out the real issues. :fuming:
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
