Gemma Arterton: ‘I want respect’

Gemma Arterton has reportedly claimed that women are often left in the “background” in the film world.

The actress admitted that she has been close to walking off set because of the way she’s been treated in the past.

She told GQ: “I’ve nearly walked off very big films before, and I would, because I don’t want that in my life. I want to enjoy the work I do.”

Arterton added that since creating a name for herself, she expects to be respected.

She said: “I’m looking at working with people I get on with, that respect me, that don’t just see me as a piece of ass. Which I have experienced as well.”

The 24-year-old, who recently returned from Paris promoting her latest film Tamara Drewe, also commented on her time there.

She explained: “There are pictures of me everywhere in those fucking hot pants.

“It’s weird and still baffling, but I see it as not me. It’s the character. That’s how I get my head around it.”
