IT returns to the top of the US box office

Creepy clown horror IT has clambered back to the top of the US box office again, after being kicked off last week by Kingsman: The Golden Circle.

The Stephen King adaptation, which stars Bill Skarsgard as terrifying clown Pennywise, is now the highest-grossing US horror movie ever, and added another $17,310,000 this weekend, according to Box Office Mojo.

Tom Cruise’s American Made is a new entry at number two, taking $17,016,000 and Kingsman: The Golden Circle drops to number three with $17,000,000.

The Golden Circle follows Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and his fellow spies, the Kingsmen, as they team up with their American counterparts, the Statesmen, to try to save the world from the evil Poppy (Julianne Moore).

The action-comedy sequel also stars Colin Firth, Channing Tatum, Halle Berry, Mark Strong, Jeff Bridges, Poppy Delevingne and Elton John.

The LEGO Ninjago Movie drops one spot to four, earning $12,000,000 over the weekend.
