Get Out topples Lego Batman at the US box office

It’s not often a horror movie tops the Box Office and receives lots of critical acclaim, but Get Out has done just that.

The comedy-horror film – which stars Daniel Kaluuya (Black Mirror, Skins) and Girls’ Alison Williams – has soared to the top of the US Box Office $30,524,435 this weekend.

It knocked the Lego Batman Movie from the top spot in its third week in the charts.

The film stars the voice talents of Will Arnett and Michael Cera and fell to the second spot and earned considerably less this weekend, taking $19 million.

In the third spot, Keanu Reeve’s John Wick: Chapter Two jumped up a place after earning $9 million, while The Great Wall fell a slot to come in fourth.

Fifty Shades Darker, the sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey, fell three places from two to five after that Valentine’s Day rush.

Fist Fight, the comedy starring Ice Cube and Charlie Day got the sixth spot in the chart.

Meanwhile Hidden Figures, the highest-charting Oscar nominated film, got the sixth spot. It stars Viola Davis and follows three African-American women’s contributions to the space race of the 1960s.

La La Land, the favourite for Best Picture at tonight’s (February 26) show, is still in the top ten in its twelfth week in the chart.

Split, starring James McAvoy, is also still clinging on at number 9, while the final Oscar nominee, Lion, rounds out the list at number 10.
