Hugh Jackman’s ‘Chappie’ tops US box office

Chappie has won the US box office in its debut weekend at cinemas.

The Hugh Jackman-starring sci-fi earned $13,300,000, pushing Will Smith’s Focus off the top spot.

Focus falls to two after taking just over $10m, while The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel debuts at number three with $8.6m.

Colin Firth’s Kingsman: The Secret Service falls to number four with $8.3m, as The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water‘s $7m sends it to number five.

Erotic drama Fifty Shades of Grey drops to six with $5.6m, and Disney’s McFarland, USA falls one space to seven with takings of around $5.3m.

The Lazarus Effect takes number eight, while The DUFF is at nine.

Vince Vaughn’s business trip-comedy Unfinished Business rounds out the top ten films, taking $4.8m in its debut weekend at cinemas.
