Gone Girl takes top spot at US box-office

Gone Girl has debuted at number one in the US box office.

The mystery-thriller, starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, follows the story of Nick and Amy Dunne as Amy disappears under mysterious circumstances.

The film took $38m in its first weekend, just beating horror Annabelle, which debuts at number two with $37.2m.

Last week’s number one The Equalizer drops two places down to the third spot with $19m, while The Boxtrolls falls down to number four.

The Maze Runner takes $12m and claims number five, as Left Behind debuts at six.

This is Where I Leave You falls three places and takes number seven, while Dolphin Tale 2‘s $3.5m claims the number eight spot.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy scraped into the top 10 with $3m, and No Good Deed completes this week’s top 10 grossing films.
