Dawn of the Planet of the Apes wins US box office

New entry Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has taken the number one spot in the US box office with a $73m.

The sci-fi blockbuster knocks Transformers: Age of Extinction down to second place with $16.5m.

Melissa McCarthy’s comedy Tammy is at third place with $12.91m, followed by comedy sequel 22 Jump Street in fourth place with $6.7m.

How To Train Your Dragon 2 is a non-mover in fifth spot with $5.865m, while family movie Earth to Echo stays at six with $5.5m.

Last week’s number four Deliver Us From Evil is down to seven with $4.7m.

Begin Again is up from fifteenth spot to number nine with $2,935,00.

Maleficent and Jersey Boys complete the US box office top ten at number eight and number ten consecutively.
