22 Jump Street slays the Dragon at US box office

22 Jump Street has debuted at number one at the US box office after taking $60m.

The comedy sequel stars Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill as cops who go undercover at a local college.

The huge opening weekend gross saw the film beat new animation How To Train Your Dragon 2, which came in second place with $50m.

Angelina Jolie’s Disney hit Maleficent is down one place to number three, while Tom Cruise’s sci-fi flick Edge of Tomorrow is at number four.

The top five is rounded out by last week’s number one movie The Fault In Our Stars, which took $15.7m. An opening weekend of $48.2m made it the best-ever debut for a contemporary drama.

Meanwhile, X-Men: Days of Future Past slipped from sixth place to seventh with $9.5m. Its total earnings now stand at over $205 million.

Godzilla (3.155m), A Million Ways To Die In The West ($3.077m), Neighbours ($2.484m), and Chef ($2.276m) complete the top 10.
