‘Man of Steel’ breaks June US box office record

Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel has stormed the US weekend box office charts.

The Warner Bros. movie, starring Henry Cavill and Amy Adams, is a new interpretation of the Superman legend, written by Dark Knight scribe David S Goyer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film has nabbed the number one June movie opening of all time with $113m on its weekend debut.

Seth Rogen and James Franco’s This is the End debuted at second place with a respectable $20.5m, ensuring that last weekend’s number one film The Purge was pushed to fifth place.

Meanwhile, Now You See Me kept its spot at number three with $10.32m, while Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughan’s The Internship continues to underperform, slipping two spots to number six with $7m.

The top ten is rounded out by Star Trek Into Darkness, After Earth, and Iron Man 3.
