‘Real Steel’ tops US box office with $27.3m

Boxer robot epic Real Steel has topped the US box office in its opening weekend.

The Shawn Levy-directed film, which stars Hugh Jackman and Evangeline Lilly, took an estimated $27.3m to place it at the top of the charts.

Opening in second place is George Clooney‘s fourth directorial effort The Ides of March which took $10.4m, followed by last weekend’s box-office topper Dolphin Tale with $9.1m.

Remaining steady in fourth place is comedy drama 50/50 with $5.5m, while Christian drama Courageous rounds out the top five films with $4.6m.

Next weekend sees the release of Owen Wilson‘s latest comedy The Big Year, as well as remakes of Footloose and The Thing.
