‘Expendables’ producers sue filesharers

Nu Image Films is suing thousands of filesharers who allegedly illegally downloaded their Sylvester Stallone action movie The Expendables.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nu Image has teamed up with The US Copyright Group to bring a lawsuit against those who obtained the movie using file-sharing application BitTorrent.

USCG’s lawsuit has subpoenaed ISPs to identify customers who have downloaded the copyrighted content and letters are being issued to individuals with settlement demands. Should the individuals not meet the settlement, they could potentially be pursued in follow-up litigation.

Thomas Dunlap of USCG has suggested that those living in “a $100,000 house” will be more appealing targets than those in a “$10,000 trailer”.

Nu Image, which has a library of nearly 180 films, reportedly plans to start similar lawsuits over its other titles.

Last year the producers of ‘Best Picture’ Oscar winner The Hurt Locker and Far Cry launched legal action against people who allegedly shared bootlegs of the films.
