FXX has renewed the adult animated comedy series for an eleventh season just a few weeks ahead of its season 10 finale. The network made the announcement today during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

“We are incredibly excited for our eleventhth season and look forward to ‘Archer’ waking up from his coma and returning to a spy world that has continued without him for the past three years,” Casey Willis, executive producer of the series, said of its renewal.

“Archer” has undergone quite a few transformations in its time on the air. Conceived as a parody spy series following the exploits of its titular character Sterling Archer (H. Jon Benjamin) and his colleagues, the show has undergone various setting changes; one season has been spent in a 1940’s noir-style Los Angeles, with another on an island in the South Pacific. The current season, entitled “Archer: 1999,” sees Archer and his friends in a retro-futuristic space adventure.

With its renewal, “Archer” will be the second longest-running series in FX history, behind “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Though much of its viewership remained intact during its transition from FX to FXX, the show has lost a bit of its steam in recent seasons. “Archer: 1999” has only averaged a 0.3 rating in adults 18-49, while the last incarnation, “Archer: Danger Island,” averaged a 0.4 across eight episodes.

Beyond H. Jon Benjamin and creator Adam Reed, “Archer” also features the vocal talents of Aisha Tyler, Jessica Walter, Chris Parnell, Judy Greer, Lucky Yates, and Amber Nash.
