The network has officially announced this afternoon, that the already-announced eighth season of “Arrow,” will be the superhero show’s last. The Stephen Amell-led series’ final season will consist of a shortened 10-episode order, set to air on the network this fall.

The end of “Arrow” comes seven years after the DC superhero series made its debut on the network in 2012, where its success laid the groundwork for the CW’s entire, current slate of DC comic book shows. “The Flash,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” “Black Lightning,” “Supergirl,” and even the upcoming, Ruby Rose-led “Batwoman” series, are all a product of “Arrow’s” initial success.

“This was a difficult decision to come to, but like every hard decision we’ve made for the past seven years, it was with the best interests of ‘Arrow’ in mind,” said showrunner Beth Schwartz and executive producers, Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, in a joint statement today.

“We’re heartened by the fact that ‘Arrow’ has birthed an entire universe of shows that will continue on for many years to come. We’re excited about crafting a conclusion that honors the show, its characters and its legacy and are grateful to all the writers, producers, actors, and — more importantly — the incredible crew that has sustained us and the show for over seven years.”

“Arrow” airs Monday nights on the CW.
