The search for the truth will continue, as History Channel reveals it has renewed “Project Blue Book” for a second season

The cable network has ordered an additional 10 episodes of the UFO drama series from executive producer Robert Zemeckis, which is currently among the top rated shows of 2019. Across its first 5 episodes, “Project Blue Book” has outperformed every other new cable series of the 2018-2019 season, with an average rating of 0.3 in adults 18-49.

Eli Lehrer, head of programming at History, praised the content and conversation surrounding the series. “We are believers in Project Blue Book, and so is our audience, who has sparked a conversation about the hundreds of unsolved cases and our nation’s military response to UFOs that have remained relatively secret until now,” he said. “Zemeckis, A+E Studios and our extraordinary creative team have shaped a compelling narrative that is the perfect blend of historical authenticity and entertainment that inspires curiosity in our viewers to learn more. We’ve touched on a very relevant topic and look forward to a second season.”

The title of the series comes from one of several systematic government studies employed to identify the subjects of UFO sightings, a project which was terminated in 1969. It also borrows cast members from a host of other popular shows, including Aidan Gillen of “Game of Thrones,” Michael Malarkey of “The Vampire Diaries,” and Laura Mennell of “The Man in the High Castle.”

The success of the series comes not long after History announced that “Vikings,” its signature scripted series, would be airing a sixth and final season in 2020. “Project Blue Book” won’t be taking up the mantle of “Vikings” alone, however, with fellow scripted drama “Knightfall” set to premiere on March 25.
