This afternoon, the network officially renewed the long-running, animated comedy series for its 31st and 32nd seasons. It is the longest-running TV series of all time, and with this news, makes it the first of FOX’s scripted series to be renewed for the network’s 2019-20 TV season, as viewers still await word on the rest of the network’s veteran and freshman titles.

According to THR, the renewal also comes after the broadcasting network finalized a reduced licensing fee for “The Simpsons,” from 20th Century Fox Television, just as 20th TV is preparing to move to Disney under the two companies’ multi-billion dollar deal.

“The Simpsons” remains FOX’s highest-rated series, with a 1.6 live + same day average rating among adults 18-49 with 4.13 million viewers this year, and is actually up from its previous season’s 1.4 and 3.45 million viewer averages. Only time will tell, however, if the network will renew its other beloved animated comedies – “Family Guy” and “Bob’s Burgers.”

“The Simpsons” airs Sunday nights on FOX.
