Announced this afternoon by the network and Canadian broadcaster, Global, “Ransom” has been officially renewed for a third season, set to premiere next year. According to early details, the next season will begin production this October, and will follow Luke Roberts’ Eric Beaumont as he deals with international crises, and works relentlessly to resolve every kidnap and ransom case that he can get his hands on.

The news of the series’ renewal comes a few weeks after it wrapped up its second season just last month. In addition to Roberts, it stars Brandon Jay McLaren, Nazneen Contractor, Sarah Greene, and more.

Created by Frank Spotnitz and David Vainola, and inspired by the professional experiences of real-life crisis negotiator Laurent Combalbert, the suspense series averaged a 0.3 rating in adults 18-49 in its second season with 2.45 average million viewers. This was down from the 0.4 live + same day average of its first season.

“We are really excited to see Ransom enter a third season going from strength to strength,” said Spotnitz. “This show is a true international creative collaboration. We are blessed with a talented cast and honored to have a growing and faithful audience.”

While the show’s numbers haven’t ever been anything to write home about – partly a result of the show’s Saturday night time slot – the series is a global import for CBS, which means it’s a low-cost title for them. Therefore, it can only continue to add to the network’s weekly schedule of original programming.

The show is set to return on CBS with its 13-episode third season sometime next year.
