“UnREAL” has just come to a swift and unexpected end



In a surprising turn of events, Hulu has officially unveiled the entire fourth season of the series on its platform today, for viewers to watch all at once. At the same time, both Hulu and A+E Studios have confirmed that it will also be the final season of the series.

That last bit of news isn’t all that surprising, though, as it was originally reported by THR that “UnREAL” would air its fourth, and likely final, season on Hulu, back in May of this year. So while no one could have seen this particular release strategy coming, “UnREAL’s” cancellation today comes as more of a final confirmation of the show’s fate.

The decision to air the show’s final 8 episodes came as a result of a new deal between Hulu and A+E Studios, with no word yet as to whether any of the episodes will ever air on Lifetime.

“‘UnREAL’ has captivated audiences on Hulu since season one, so when this opportunity came to us, we knew we couldn’t miss out,” commented Craig Erwich, Senior VP of Content at Hulu. “This is a unique way to both satisfy fans of the show, while also continuing to introduce it to new audiences.”

“UnREAL” returned after over a year and a half hiatus earlier this year with its third season, but averaged only 270,000 live + same day total viewers at the time, just a little more than half of what its divisive second season averaged back in 2016.

The show’s fourth season follows both Shiri Appleby’s Rachel Goldberg and Constance Zimmer’s Quinn King as they return to the set of “Everlasting” (“UnREAL’s” “Bachelor”-inspired reality TV series) for a new “All-Stars” season. It is available to watch on Hulu now.
