FX has renewed “Atlanta” for a third season, the news of which comes after the series wrapped up its second season — subtitled “Robbin’ Season” — on the network last month. Created by and starring Donald Glover, “Atlanta” follows the down-on-his-luck Earn (Glover) as he tries to work his way up through the rap scene as his cousin’s manager, all while he and his friends are forced to deal with issues of race, wealth, societal status, and the relationships that make up their personal lives.

The show’s renewal comes as little of a surprise after “Atlanta” only further cemented its place as possibly the most acclaimed show on TV right now with its second season. In addition, the series averaged a fairly steady 0.3 live + same day rating in adults 18-49 throughout its sophomore season, down just one-tenth from its first season’s 0.4 average.

FX Networks and FX Productions Programming President, Nick Grad, commented on the third season renewal with the following:

“‘Atlanta’ is phenomenal, achieving and exceeding what few television series have done. With Atlanta Robbin’ Season, Donald and his collaborators elevated the series to even greater heights, building on the enormous success of their award-winning first season. We’re grateful to the producers and our extraordinary cast and crew for achieving this level of excellence, and we share the excitement with our audience about the third season knowing they will continue to take us to unexpected and thrilling places.”
