The network has ordered a third season of the series, which stars Kristen Bell, Ted Danson and William Jackson Harper. Like the first two, it will run for 13 episodes. Creator Mike Schur has said shorter seasons make the heavily serialized show easier to map out.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of the renewal.

“The Good Place” is currently on hiatus while NBC airs its portion of the “Thursday Night Football” package. It will return in early January with its last five episodes of the season.

The show is averaging a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49 and 4.3 million viewers for its initial airings this season. It improves to 2.0 in the 18-49 demographic and about 6.2 million viewers with a week of delayed viewing.

NBC also says “The Good Place’s” multiplatform rating of 2.6 among adults 18-49 is on par with last season.

In addition to Bell, Harper and Danson, the series also stars Jameela Jamil, D’Arcy Carden and Manny Jacinto.

“The Good Place” is the third show NBC has picked up for next season, joining pre-season renewals “This Is Us” and “Will & Grace.” It also joins this list of shows that have been renewed for 2018-19 and beyond.
