It looks like viewers haven’t seen the last of Christina Ricci’s Zelda Fitzgerald or her tumultuous marriage to the real-life author, F. Scott Fitzgerald, quite yet after all

In a surprising move, Amazon has officially renewed “Z: The Beginning of Everything” for a second season, the streaming service revealed today. Starring Christina Ricci, David Hoflin, Kristine Nielsen, David Straitharn, Corey Cott, and more, “Z: The Beginning of Everything” is based on the novel, “Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald,” by Therese Anne Fowler. It follows Zelda Fitzgerald (Ricci), an icon of the 1920s Jazz age, through her marriage to the famous American author, F. Scott Fitzgerald (Hoflin), as they navigated their tricky and passionate romance through wild parties, drunken nights, and an overall excess of everything.

This news comes just a few weeks after it was presumed that “Z: The Beginning of Everything” was dead in the water at Amazon, possibly facing a fate similar to the streaming service’s other, recent failed period female-centric series, “Good Girls Revolt,” which was canceled less than two months after it premiered late last year. Many assumed as much since “Z: The Beginning of Everything” was welcome to an even more lukewarm response from critics and viewers than “Good Girls Revolt” was.

However, a pitch for the show’s proposed second season was what apparently turned the streaming service around, and motivated them to give it another chance at life. “Z: The Beginning of Everything” will return for its second season sometime next year, and no other official details about the sophomore season have been revealed as of yet.
