Fox has cancelled a slew of comedies after low ratings, including freshman shows The Grinder and Grandfathered.

Also given the chop are Seth MacFarlane's animation Bordertown, as well as Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life, The Hollywood Reporter reveals.

Grandfathered, which starred John Stamos as a bachelor who discovers he has a son and a granddaughter from a past relationship, averaged a 1.4 rating and a viewing audience of 4 million on live-plus-seven-day views.

Despite also having star power - this time in Rob Lowe - The Grinder was even more unpromising, with a 1.2 rating and 3.4 million viewers over the series, averaging as low as 0.6 in ratings over recent episodes.

MacFarlane's latest comedy also flopped, averaging a 0.9 rating despite the weight of the Family Guy creator's previous TV successes. Cooper Barrett took in around a 1.2 rating.

The channel will also be cancelling the Frankenstein-based show Second Chance, though to little surprise as it suffered from poor ratings when it premiered mid-season.

This news follows ABC's announcement that it is cancelling its show Agent Carter, while Agents of SHIELD spinoff Marvel's Most Wanted will not be seeing the light of day.
