Christina Ricci has exited NBC pilot Girlfriend in a Coma.



Ricci was attached to the lead role of Karen in the comedy, which is loosely based on Douglas Coupland's 1998 novel of the same name.

Girlfriend follows Karen as she wakes up from a coma to discover that she has a daughter - played by iCarly's Miranda Cosgrove.

Ricci quit the pilot following the first table read and her role will now be recast, Deadline reports.

Girlfriend in a Coma - in contention for a series pick-up at NBC - has been adapted for television by Nurse Jackie creator Liz Brixius.

Other projects to have undergone recasting this pilot season include Fox's Gang Related - which saw Lost's Terry O'Quinn replace Tom Berenger - and TNT's Legends - with Sean Bean stepping in for Brendan Fraser.
