Robert Schwentke to direct HBO lobotomy series

Robert Schwentke has reportedly been signed up to direct a new HBO series.



The Time Traveller's Wife filmmaker will lead a drama about lobotomy inventor Dr Walter Freeman alongside scribe Daniel Thomsen, according to Variety.

Freeman created the surgical procedure in the late 1940s as a miracle cure for the mentally ill.

Based on the best-selling book of the same name, HBO's The Lobotomist will also be developed by Leonardo DiCaprio's company Appian Way Productions

Schwentke, whose last film RED was critically accclaimed, is currently working on cop thriller R.I.P.D.
