'Mad Men', 'Modern Family' lead Emmy nominations

Mad Men has dominated this year's Emmy nominations, being recognised in a total of 19 categories.

Jon Hamm (Don Draper) was recognised as a potential 'Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series', while his co-stars Elisabeth Moss and Christina Hendricks were also nominated.

HBO's Boardwalk Empire was the second-most recognised series, with 18 nominations, including one for lead actor Steve Buscemi (Nucky Thompson).

ABC sitcom Modern Family was the most popular comedy series with the Academy, winning 17 nominations in total.

However, HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce, starring Kate Winslet, was the most recognised piece of programming overall, with 21 nominations.

HBO also led the pack in terms of nominated networks, with a total of 104 nominations. CBS was the second-placed network with 50 nods, followed by NBC (46), PBS (43) and Fox (42).

The 63rd Emmy Awards will take place in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 18, with Glee star Jane Lynch as host.
