Just one day after the freshman drama aired its finale episode, one of the show’s stars, Dana Delany, announced on Twitter this afternoon that “The Code” will not be returning for a second season on the network. Until today, it was CBS’ only scripted series of the 2018-19 season that had yet to be canceled or renewed.

Created by Craig Sweeny and Craig Turk, “The Code” followed the professional and personal lives of some of the military’s brightest legal minds, where each attorney is trained as a prosecutor, a defense lawyer, an investigator… and a Marine. Its cast included Anna Wood, Ato Essandoh, Phillipa Soo, Raffi Barsoumian, Luke Mitchell, Dana Delany, and more.

The announcement of the show’s cancellation has been expected for quite some time now, as “The Code” has continued to underperform in the ratings this season. The series averaged a 0.5 live + same day rating among adults 18-49 in its first season, making it one of CBS’ lowest-rated shows of the year.

“The Code” is the seventh CBS scripted series of the season to be canceled, joining “Fam,” “Happy Together,” “Murphy Brown,” “Ransom,” “Life in Pieces,” and “The Red Line” on the network’s list of shows not returning for additional seasons next year.
