Announced this afternoon, the network has officially renewed the Kevin Costner-led drama for a 10-episode third season, the news of which comes ahead of the show’s season 2 premiere later tonight.

Co-created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson, the series follows the Dutton family, led by John Dutton (Costner), who controls the largest contiguous ranch in the United States, as they must defend the ranch from the constant attacks by those it borders, including land developers, an Indian reservation, and America’s first National Park.

Costner leads the series’ ensemble cast, which also includes Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, Gil Birmingham, Jefferson White, and more.

Averaging 5.1 million viewers throughout its first season, “Yellowstone” was the most-watched new cable series of 2018, and second-most-watched show across all of cable. The freshman series also averaged a solid 0.4 live + same day rating among adults 18-49 in its first season.

Whether or not “Yellowstone” can continue to produce the same kind of numbers that it did in its first season remains to be seen, but with this early renewal today, it’s clear that the Paramount Network is still just as confident in the drama as it was last year.
